Abstract

The author collates the available information regarding the pensions paid to John Barbour as a result of his historical writings about the Scottish royal family. He uses this evidence to suggest when 'The Bruce' may have been completed, as well as a potential date of Barbour's death. The last section of the article argues against the suggestion that Barbour could not have journeyed abroad for research due to his position as an Archdeacon.
