Abstract

A follow up article to Robert Chambers' earlier paper (p. 90-93). Mr William Fraser, assistant-keeper of the Registers of Sasines, discovered two letters, which confirm that the Duke of York could not have been present at the Scottish Privy Council meetings in Edinburgh that the records claim he attended. Furthermore, Mr Joseph Robertson then argues that there are more instances in the Privy Council records when the Duke is listed as a participant in a meeting, but which we have evidence he could not have attended. None of the contributors to this argument suggest why these errors might have been inserted into the Privy Council records.
