Abstract


The article contains a transcription of the epitaph of Alexander Shand (d.1803), a contemporary of General William Roy who worked with him on his map of Scotland in the 18th century. Also included are some letters relating to the discovery of the Roman camp at Glenmailen and his correspondence with a Danish scholar, Professor Grimm Thorkelin, about the construction of roads and the breeds of sheep found in Denmark.
