Abstract

This article discusses the construction materials and layout of the ruined chapel at Kirkheugh. Although the author is hesitant to draw conclusions about when the earlier part of the structure was built, he does suggest that the newer part of the chapel could have been added in the thirteenth century. The Vice-President David Laing then presents some notes on the local history of the chapel in Kirkheugh, including the connection with the culdees, the wealth of the church, and the names of the church's chief officials from the foureenth to the sixteenth century.
