Notice of the remains of an ancient stone building, discovered near the Village of Newstead, Roxburghshire
Newstead, Scottish Borders, Scotland, UK
Further to his earlier articles on the Roman finds at Newstead, John Alexander Smith offfers more detail about the remains of a building that he had previously been unable to examine in depth. He relates the dimensions and composition of the remaining foundational walls, as well as examining the evidence that this building is of Roman origin. He speculates on what the roof of this building may have looked like and suggests that this may have been used as storage for offerings or as an underground temple.
