About the Journal
SHAIR is a peer-reviewed open access journal of reports and large-scale surveys conducted in Scotland
ISSN: 2979-1170
About the journal
SHAIR was established by a consortium of heritage organisations including the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland and the Council for British Archaeology in 2000. The purpose of the journal is to publish fully peer-reviewed accounts of new research in Scotland’s archaeological heritage.
Submissions
SHAIR accepts submissions that are more than 10,000 words long. All SHAIR projects must come with external funding to cover the cost of making the reports freely available. Please see the submission guidelines for further details.
Information on the peer review process, open access and digital archiving can be found on the journal policies page.
Previous titles
In 2026, the name of the series was changed from the Scottish Archaeological Internet Reports (SAIR) to the Scottish Historical and Archaeological Internet Reports (SHAIR). This change was made to reflect the expansion of the series’ scope to include historical topics.
Issues published before this change was introduced (up to SAIR 115) therefore use SAIR instead of SHAIR.
