Abstract

A report on the excavation of a field in Hospitalfield near Arbroath where human remains were discovered in 1860-61. Given that over 100 mostly complete skeletons were discovered laid out in regular rows, the author speculates that the site may have been a cemetery for the Hospital of St John the Baptist. The article concludes with a brief history of the area, including the possible location for the Hospital of St John the Baptist and a chronology of the area’s landowners.
