Memorandum Respecting the Smellie Correspondence, presented to the Society by the Trustees of the late John Smellie

Abstract

Some of the letters of William Smellie, an original member of the Society, were found after his grandson’s death in Portobello. The author provides evidence that it was Mr Smellie’s wish that these letters be donated to the Society, and therefore donated them to the Society’s library.

Meeting notes for 8th June, 1863 are appended. Professor Daniel Wilson donated many artefacts from North, Central and South America, as well as from around Scotland.
