Notice of some Indian Antiquities, as compared with British in a letter from Dr Daniel Wilson, Toronto, Upper Canada, to David Laing

Abstract

Daniel Wilson comments on the similarities between some artefacts belonging to First Nations groups in north-western Canada and those of the early peoples of the British Isles. In particular, he notes that an adze made one tribe is used to hollow out their canoes in a way that he believes echoes the way that wooden canoes found in the Clyde were made. This hand tool is also compared to some stone weaponry made by Pacific Islanders.

Meeting notes for April 13, 1857 are appended. During this meeting a communication on a German cruet was read by John MacKinlay and the Great Seal of Scotland of George III and the Quarter Seal of Scotland of George IV were presented to the Society as donations with accompanying explanatory notes.
