Abstract
A rebuttal by Dr. Daniel Wilson of a paper printed in vol. iv of the Archaeologia Scotica (but which was originally given in 1827), which attributed a Scandinavian origin to the Buidhean or Bell of Strowan. Dr. Wilson relates several local legends that were attached to the Bell of Strowan as well as others like it. Given the number of Scottish religious sites with which these bells are associated, many of them pre-dating the Scandinavian invasion of the island, Dr. Wilson concludes that these must be native objects.
Meetings minutes for January 12, 1852 are appended.
