Abstract

In the early nineteenth century, a body that was believed to be Bruce’s was discovered during the rebuilding of Dunfermline church. A coffin-plate reading ‘Robertus Scotorum Rex’ was later found, although the evidence in this paper suggests that the plate was a hoax. The author transcribes a letter from Mr John Nimmo of Paris which details how the hoax was created. The author follows this with a short biography of Mr Nimmo.
