Abstract

The Vice-President gave the opening address praising the Society's achievements over the past session and commemorating the Fellows who died over the past year. He also noted the success of the meeting held by the Archaeological Institute of Great Britain in Edinburgh, which he believes will increase the study of archaeology in Scotland. He goes on to give his opinion on what the Society's purpose should be and what benefits the study of the past can offer.

Meeting notes for December 15, 1856 are appended.
