Abstract


The article discusses the identity of an individual who is mentioned in an inscribed tablet in Melrose Abbey that is in danger of deteriorating beyond repair. It is concluded that the individual - John Morow - was most likely a stonemason who repaired the abbey, some time in the fifteenth century. The author uses this argument as a vehicle to discuss the stonemasonry and construction of the Abbey more generally.
