On the Scythian Bows, and Bows of the Ancients, compared with those of India

Abstract

Dr Buist compares written documentation of bows and arrows from Scythian and Parthian antiquity to the same weapons used in 19th century Afghanistan and India. He pays particular attention to the materials used and the design of the weapons. He contrasts these descriptions to the typical medieval English and ancient Egyptian bows, which utilise different materials and designs.
