Abstract

An examination of the accepted view that the building fell into ruin after 1688 based on unpublished documentary sources and efforts to save it between 1688 and 1741. `Appendix 1: views showing the Bishop's Castle' (1155--6) and `Appendix 2: documents relating to the Bishop's Castle, 1693--1736' (1157--60) conclude proceedings.
