Abstract

A re-assessment of the historical evidence and accounts relating to the coronation of Alexander III, which took place in Scone, Perthshire. In particular, the traditionally held view that during the coronation the Latin formulas were translated into French by the Bishop of St Andrew's is re-considered. Legge acknowledges it may never be possible to clear this matter up completely.
