Abstract

The article details the excavation of Chester Hillfort in 1939 by Phoebe A M Keef. Excavations focussed on the entrance, the structure of the defences, and of the huts inside the main enclosure. The rampart, floors of an annexe and the terraces beyond it, were also examined. In the absence of any artefactual evidence the hillfort was dated to the Scottish Iron Age.
