Abstract
John Stuart reported on the logistics of using a £400 that Alexander Henry Rhind left to the Society "to be expended in practical archaeological excavations in the north-eastern portion of Scotland". He described some of the excavations he observed in Sutherland, Caithness and Ross to better understand the structures in these counties that interested Rhind. In his conclusion he suggested commissioning local archaeologists and workmen to undertake any excavations in these counties and requesting ground-plans and architectural drawings of the structures. He also suggested that the Society should contribute to excavations that were already taking place in the area alongside funding new excavations. Mr Stuart's proposal was accepted by the Council on 30 November 1866.
