Abstract


The author provides a biography of Francois Thurot, an eighteenth century French naval officer. This biography includes his work as a privateer and naval officer against the English, as well as details of his final battle. The author also relates the circumstances that led him to be buried in Galloway and describes some of the personal items that helped to identify his body.
