Abstract

A transcript of Lord Neaves' speech from the Conversazione that opened the Society's new Museum rooms. He emphasises the wide range of disciplines that are relevant to antiquarian studies and highlights what he believes are some of the most important parts of the Museum's collections. He also notes some artefacts that he feels the museum is missing and what benefits they could bring to antiquarian studies.

Meeting notes for 9 January, 1860 are appended. At this meeting, Alexander Henry Rhind donated nearly 700 Egyptian artefacts from his excavations in Thebes to the Museum. Presentations were also made at this meeting by Mr Le Blanc and Cosmo Innes but were not later expanded into articles for the Proceedings.
