Abstract


This article discusses the City Cross in Edinburgh that was demolished in 1756. The cross' design is described and the author quotes some of the contemporary reactions to the its demolition. He then goes on to discuss some of the other buildings in Edinburgh that were demolished around the same time and concludes with by noting that parts of the original cross were preserved by Sir Walter Scott at Abbotsford.
