Abstract

This is a notice from Lieutenant-Colonel R C Moody of a 'Pierrier' cannon that was unearthed during an excavation of Broughty Castle in 1856. He does not offer a suggestion of how old the cannon might be, but after some investigation he concludes that this is a very common piece of artillery that was still being used by his contemporaries in the nineteenth century. Similar examples found at Edinburgh Castle are also mentioned.
