Abstract

The Hon. W. Leslie Melville, a Fellow of the Society, exhibited a medal and a jewel that belonged to his family, both dating to the period when Sir Alexander Leslie was created Earl of Leven. The medal commemorates Sir Alexander Leslie's service to Gustave Adolphus in helping to lift the siege of Stralsund. The Jewel has a miniature depicting John, Duke of Rothes, from whose sister the families of Leven and Melville, of Buccleuch, and of Wemyss were all descended.
