Anniversary Meeting
28 November 1851
Anniversary address, National Museums Scotland, Conversazione, Fellow election
Abstract
Dr. Daniel Wilson, then Secretary of the Society, gave an address during which he congratulated the Society and its Fellows on entering into an agreement with the Crown to turn over their collections to the nation and to become curators of this collection in hopes of opening a National Archaeological Museum of Scotland. He reminded the Fellows of the task ahead of them in building a museum worthy of Scotland's antique riches, especially in view of the large head-start that other European nations had on them. He concluded the address by remembering the Fellows who had passed away in that year.
There then follows an account of the first conversazione of the year, also held on Nov. 28, 1851.
